2009 CONSTITUTION WEEK DINNER
We the People . . . Those famous words begin the Preamble to our United States CONSTITUTION, the longest-lasting basic document of any constitutional government. It is even more important right now as major changes in our society are engulfing our senses. Once again it’s time for our annual Chapter meeting whereby we celebrate Constitution Day when a proposal for a new form of government was sent for ratification by the original 13 states after a distinguished group of Americans completed their work on September 17, 1787. To help celebrate the 222nd anniversary of Constitution Day itself, please note that this year that date falls on a Thursday. Keeping with tradition, we have planned to meet the day before as a WEDNESDAY evening dinner, ... SEPTEMBER 16, 2009.
Our guest speaker is a familiar individual to SAR compatriots. GRCC member William L. Smith will present a unique surprise program this year. Two years ago Bill portrayed the Constitutional Convention delegate from Pennsylvania as he spoke to us as though we were members of the Pennsylvania convention to ratify this proposed constitution. He must have convinced us as Pennsylvania was the second state to ratified it --- Dec. 12, 1787. We know this program will be interesting to all Compatriots & their guests. PLEASE COME JOIN US for an excellent evening of fellowship and history.
