FLAG DAY 2008 LUNCHEON It will soon again be FLAG DAY and this year is the 231st anniversary of our United States Flag as so described in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. We know George Washington wanted a flag to represent the 13 combined states and clearly indicate that the former American colonies were separate from England. Thus, 13 alternating red-and-white stripes with the 13 five-pointed stars. George Washington had many strong religious and political beliefs. While we wonder how close he came to death, was he really “bullet-proof” ? Little known is that he traveled a great deal supporting states rights after the war and prior to his Presidency. Hear about all these items and more Saturday JUNE 14th ---- actual FLAG DAY this year. Our special guest speaker will be GEORGE W. TOWERS, a fellow GRCC compatriot. His presentation about Washington’s many narrow escapes and travels throughout the colonies and states, as God protected this leader, will fascinate and astound you. In addition, you will want to attend our Luncheon to welcome and induct three (3) new SAR compatriots into your GRC Chapter. George Rogers Clark compatriots and guests are invited to our Flag Day meeting which this year will be celebrated on SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 2008 as a NOON LUNCHEON … to hear more about G.W. ! Bring a guest and perhaps a potential member for this interesting program. LUNCHEON SPECIFICS WHEN: Saturday NOON – June 14, 2008 WHERE: Courtyard by Marriott – Springfield (downtown Springfield) MENU: Smoked Grilled Chicken Breast w/ BBQ Sauce, Roasted Red Potatoes, Fresh Green Beans w/ red onions, House Salad, rolls & butter, beverage, and as always an appropriate special Chef’s dessert.
